Luciano Spalletti admitted to being disappointed in his side for not being able to perform how they have in previous Champions League games following the 2-0 loss away to Barcelona.
“The thing that disappoints me most is the way we played in the first half. Games in the Champions League are ones that give you added conviction and self-esteem to help you, as it did against Tottenham Hotspur and PSV. We needed the same attitude today as we were not brave and Barcelona sussed out our game well,” he told Sky Sport post-match.
“It is not down to a single player that things went wrong it is that we were not able to keep the ball and get in to spaces. We needed to be more aggressive to win the ball back and overturn the situation.”
Inter struggled with Barcelona’s possession based tactic and Spalletti proceeded to discuss this.
“The Spanish teams move the ball faster and they are more reactive. If we do not find the free man when passing under pressure, it is clear that everything becomes more difficult. We were never able to stop their passing.”
Spalletti concluded by speaking on the group standings at the half way point of the group stage.
“We do not have to depend on others if we want to be as big a team as we want to be.”
