Inter Vice-President Zanetti: “Unaware Of Real’s Interest In Icardi, Our Game With Barca Will Be Very Difficult”

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has denied any knowledge of interest in the services of Mauro Icardi from Real Madrid.

“Icardi is our captain and our reference point. He’s also very happy at Inter. We’re not aware of any interest from Real Madrid. We’re aware that Inter are in good shape and don’t have to sell to continue to respect Financial Fair Play,” Zanetti told Spanish newspaper Marca.

The Argentine, who spent almost 20 years on the clubs books as a player, then spoke on tonight’s Champions League match against Barcelona.

“I expect a very difficult game, they have quality throughout the side but Inter have everything to aim for a win. I don’t think we’ll see a very different Barça [from the first game], they’ll go out and do the same because they never change their philosophy. They’ll want to control the game and we’ll need to counteract that.

“We started well at Camp Nou, but Barcelona made the most of their possession and scored at the right time. They went into the break 1-0 up and that was important.”

He concluded the interview by speaking on compatriot Lionel Messi.

“It’s a pleasure to watch him play, but I hope he stays on the bench for a bit…I know him a little though, and he’ll be desperate to get on the pitch.”
