Lautaro Martinez: “Playing At San Siro Is Unique & Fantastic”

As part of tonight’s match day programme, Inter striker Lautaro Martinez spoke on the early days of his career among other topics.

“When I was a child I started out as a defender. My father played football and I remember that when we were kids, I tried to take the ball away from him when we were at home and then that is how it started,” he said.

“My first professional goal was against Huracan, it was a fantastic, indescribable moment for me. I thought of my family and the sacrifices everyone made for me once I scored it. Although I was helped by everyone in the club and by those who loved me, it was still not easy.”

He then spoke on his footballing idol and his relationship with Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

“I watch Radamel Falcao carefully and admirably.”

“We [Icardi and I] both love the same music, cumbia and reggaeton, we listen to it on the way to go to the stadium before the match.”

He concluded the interview by discussing speaking on what it is like to play at the San Siro.

“San Siro is indescribable, unique, fantastic. You feel a respect, a participation that cannot be found anywhere else. When you hear the fans singing the anthem it fires you up like crazy, you feel like the shirt you’re wearing is a second skin.”
