Mauro Icardi will be aiming to continue his prolific run of goal-scoring form at the Stadio Olimpico when Inter face Roma this evening, as discussed by Tuttosport on Sunday.
Icardi has scored five times on his last three trips to the capital and ended up on the winning side each time, with two victories against Lazio and one against Roma at the start of last season.
However he has also found the net five times in his last three away matches in general, with doubles against SPAL and Lazio being followed up by his penalty against Atalanta last month.
“It might be because he made his debut in Serie A at the Olimpico, back in September 2012 with Sampdoria, or it might be because he always delivers when the pressure is on Inter,” the Turin-based publication mused.
“The fact is Icardi looks more comfortable in Rome than in his apartment which overlooks San Siro.”
Icardi is expected to be partnered in attack by Ivan Perisic and Matteo Politano when the Nerazzurri step out on Sunday night, with compatriot Lautaro Martinez forced to settle for a place on the bench again.
“At the moment Spalletti isn’t willing to contemplate the idea of playing them together from the start, not least because El Toro still needs to assimilate all the defensive movements that are required to help preserve the team’s balance.”
