Piero Ausilio spoke on the sidelines of the Gran Galà del Calcio AIC 2018 event and firstly spoke on Inter’s value and the goal for this season.
“The team is demonstrating through numbers what its value is, but we are prepared to consolidate our goal, to focus and try, if possible, to do better than in the past year.
“We are in line with what our objectives are, perhaps for some of you it is a surprise to know that Inter can have the chance to qualify for the Champions League round of sixteen”.
He then went on to speak about Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta, who is expected to be appointed by Inter in the coming weeks.
“I am absolutely happy to work for Inter. If there is also the possibility of working with Beppe Marotta, whom I have known for many years, I will do it with satisfaction, I respect him as a man and as a manager.
“He will certainly bring us more experience. With his experience and professionalism, Marotta will find a very strong club, made of passion and history.”
Ausilio was then asked about the possibility of Luka Modric arriving in the upcoming January transfer window.
“Regardless of the names, there will not be big signings. We are already planning the strengthening of the team in view of next season.”
Ausilio then spoke on Lautaro Martinez’s father’s recent tweet which appeared to be a swipe at Luciano Spalletti.
“Spalletti has already said everything that needed to be said. The player’s father probably got a bit caught up by passion and love. What matters is Lautaro, who is a mature boy who every day proves to be committed to Inter.
He penultimately spoke on Ivan Perisic, who has not performed as he has in previous season.
“He is in keeping with his expectations, like all his teammates. He makes a contribution every Sunday and when he has the opportunity in the Champions League, I think it’s normal to expect more and more from him, because we have important projects. The Croatian is an important part of this team.”
He concluded the interview by speaking on Friday match away to Juventus.
“It will be an important match, but nothing decisive, we are in line with the goals for the start of the season and we hope to be up there at the end. Every game worth three points, it is normal that the one against Juventus will be important because there is prestige. We will face one of the strongest teams in Europe and the strongest in Italy, but we want to make it difficult for them.”
