Inter Captain Icardi Renewal Talks On Hold Until Next Year

Corriere dello Sport have examined the latest situation with regard to talks between Inter and club captain Mauro Icardi over a new contract.

Inter sat down with Icardi’s representatives back in September to discuss a new deal. Inter offered €6 million a year to the striker but his agent and wife Wanda Icardi was not impressed by the proposal and requested more. This has led to a stall in negotiations.

Negotiations have been further stalled by Icardi’s recent goalscoring form. Should the parties resume negotiations at this stage it could prove more expensive for Inter as Icardi and his representatives could use his form to negotiate a higher deal for himself.

Talks have been postponed until next year but after all there is ultimately no rush given he is still under contract until the end of the 2020/21 season and has went on record saying he is wanting to stay at Inter for a long time.

However, Inter cannot take too long due to their still being a €110 million release clause in his contract valid only in the first two weeks of every July to foreign clubs. Icardi has arguably outgrown that figure and could be subject to a lot of interest in the summer due to this.
