Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has spoken on the contract renewal situation of Mauro Icardi as part of an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Mauro is very happy at Inter and we’re very happy with him. The renewal will come at the most opportune time, we’re all waiting for it. He’s important for us on and off the pitch, he’s our captain and our reference point,” he said.

Zanetti then went on to speak about Luciano Spalletti

“We do not evaluate his work by a defeat or a win. He is a very good coach and a great professional who puts all his passion on the pitch. We need to analyse as we go, we are happy with him and we will make our assessments at the end of the season. He needs to work calmly, we want to face every competition as protagonists.”

Zanetti also spoke on new chief executive officer Beppe Marotta.

“He is a great professional that I hope will help us to achieve great results. We need a great team on the field, but also off it. Nedved’s comments towards him? I did not understand it.”
