It is not just Inter’s Mauro Icardi who is experiencing a down year on last year, Juventus’ Paulo Dybala, Roma’s Edin Dzeko, Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, Milan’s Gonzalo Higuain and Napoli’s Dries Mertens all are too, La Repubblica have highlighted.
Icardi currently finds himself seven goals behind how many he had at this stage of last season. Dybala has had the sharpest decline and is 10 goals behind while Dzeko is six behind, Immobile five behind, Higuain four behind and Mertens three behind.
The decline of Icardi is not as bad as it seems though. He still has nine goals this season in the 16 Serie A rounds played and while it is not the 16 he had last season, he has missed three games due to injury. Moreover, particularly in recent games, he has changed his style and is now leaving the box more. He has evolved and scoring less goals has been part of that.
