Inter manager Luciano Spalletti reflected on his side’s 1-0 win over Napoli at San Siro which came as a result of a late goal from substitute Lautaro Martinez.
“I saw a strong Inter tonight from start to finish. In some ways, we deserved the victory, as we pushed hard. At the same time, if Asamoah had not cleared off the line, we could have lost, as that was a tough situation to get out of. It was more importantly a very entertaining game between two teams who moved the ball with pace, played good football and in a way, both deserved the points.”
Spalletti then spoke on Inter match-winner Lautaro Martinez.
“Lautaro is doing what he has to do. He could have done better in the past but he took his opportunity coming off the bench today.”
Spalletti proceeded to speak on Radja Nainggolan who missed the match due to being suspended by the club for disciplinary reasons.
“There are rules in the locker room that are set at the start of the season. I do not create trouble for the sake of it. I have to ensure the rules are respected for the good of everyone. Rules are as fundamental as the ball in this sport.
“Nainggolan was only kept out for this game, as a principle, and also has a fine. Players have plenty of money, so they do not mind paying fines, but being dropped makes an impact. It is not that Nainggolan let me down. He simply had some behaviour that was not OK.”
He then spoke on Joao Mario.
“Physically and character-wise he carries himself as someone who has quality. In crucial moments they say that you need imagination to become truly great but at a certain point you need to be able to execute the chances. Therefore, from this aspect he fails to alternate between these two behaviour patterns.”
He concluded by discussing the substitutions he made.
“We had the chance to replace players in a fairly ‘clean’ way, in the sense that there were substitutions to be made. The characteristics that we wanted were there for us. Players like Lautaro and Keita can give you more quality in the attack.”
