Inter Weren’t Pretty Against Empoli But Are Showing Themselves To Be Worthy Of A Place In The Champions League

Inter are maybe a long way off the Scudetto but are certainly performing at a level worthy of securing a place in the Champions League come the end of the season in the eyes of Gazzetta dello Sport, who have analysed Inter’s victory over Empoli yesterday.

“It was not an epic result, but, looking at things with a glass half full, it is a result that guarantees the money needed to continue the path of growth then it will be up to Marotta to spend it well. The Nerazzurri team beat Empoli securing three points with the minimum effort. It was a dull match that Inter won when they decided to insert Nainggolan and then Lautaro Martinez that allowed them to change to a 4-2-3-1 system, one that gives a different kind of potential in attack. With this new system the team of Luciano Spalletti scored the decisive goal through Keita and almost doubled it Icardi and Politano both coming close. “

The Milan based newspaper still believe Inter lacked something however.

“Once again though the Nerazzurri missed the blow to kill the game off, a story already seen at other times in the season that has cost Inter precious points. This time Inter managed to defend the advantage and win for the first time in two months away from home and stretch the gap between themselves and fifth place.”
