Inter’s newly appointed CEO Beppe Marotta tried to calm Nerazzurri fans worried that the club captain Mauro Icardi could be on his way out from the club, following the player’s statements on social media earlier today.

The former Juventus CEO was asked about the status of the contract renewal negotiations with the Argentinian international striker by Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, when he was leaving the club’s offices in central Milano.

“We are calm and the fans can also remain calm. We will see next week” Marotta said smiling before leaving in a car.

The statement by Marotta and club President Steven Zhang came after two days of turmoil where first Wanda Nara, the player’s wife/agent, yesterday stated that the parties were far from agreeing a new contract. Earlier today, Icardi himself gave his side of the story, declaring that he firmly stands behind the actions taken by his wife/agent and that she would represent him for the remainder of his career.
