Inter President Steven Zhang has cooled things off regarding the contract renewal discussions betweent he club and the club’s captain Mauro Icardi in an exclusive interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

The Inter supremo was asked to give his reaction regarding to what the Nerazzurri captain put out on his social media channels earlier today saying that the club has not yet begun talks regarding a contract extension.

“Mauro is our captain, soon we will all meet up and talk about his contract. There are a lot of things being reported in the newspapers but some of the things are not true. We are not locked in talks with the player, he is very professional and everything is OK.”

The Inter President was then asked about the club’s plans during this transfer window to which he replied: “We are working, everything is OK, if any opportunities turn up we will seize it. The January transfer window is special and not one for top players, it doesn’t present great opportunities.”

“Our squad is strong, we are working on improving the physical condition of our players. We are working to see if the right young talented players are around for us to bring them in” he concluded.
