It is only a matter of time until Inter captain Mauro Icardi overtakes Christian Vieri in the all-time leading Inter scoring charts and Tuttosport suggest Icardi could well do it this weekend if not at least match it.

Icardi would require a brace to tie level with Vieri in eighth place on 123 goals but a hat trick would make him eight place outright.

By the end of the season, the 25-year-old could well even be Inter’s seventh greatest ever scorer with it certainly possible that he can overtake Istvan Nyers, who scored 133 goals during his time with the club in the last 1940s and early 1950s.

This season Icardi has netted 14 goals in 23 appearances across all competitions. The latest goal arrived at the weekend as he broke a run of three consecutive games without a goal by opening the scoring in Inter’s resounding 6-2 win over Benevento in the Coppa Italia from the penalty spot.
