Milan Skriniar: “I Want To Stay At Inter”

Milan Skriniar has stressed his desire to remain at Inter amidst continued interest in his services from a whole host of other clubs.

“I want to stay at Inter, I have a great relationship with the club and with the directors. We are talking about a contract renewal and we are close to finding an agreement. Will it be signed in February? We will find the best time to do it,” he told Tuttosport.

“I have not won anything yet in my career and I have come to Inter to do this. Inter have not won a trophy for a while and the club wants it and the fans dream about it. If I can win with Inter I will be even happier.

The Slovakian then spoke on manager Luciano Spalletti’s recent comments where he said he is worth €100 million, at least.

“That was a joke, I know he said it after the game with Barcelona, but I did not believe it and, to those who asked me, I answered that it was not true, but it’s nice, but the price is not important. There are some players who can talk about certain things but that’s not me.”

Next he spoke on Inter’s recent struggles in front of goal in the league.

“We create a lot of opportunities but unfortunately we can not put them in the net. The solution to the problem is simple: we need to pay more attention to the details that can change the outcome of a chance.

“It is our goal to not concede in games and if we keep the opponent from scoring it means we just need one goal to win a game.”

Skriniar then discussed how he prepares for opponents.

“I’ve been in Italy three years now so I know now many of the opponents but otherwise I watch videos prepared by Spalletti and his assistants to allow me to better understand the characteristics of those I will face.

“When I was at Sampdoria, I faced Mauro [Icardi] twice, he’s a different kind of striker because maybe for ten minutes you do not see him and then out of nowhere he comes back and scores, the same thing happens in training. When playing someone like Icardi you can lose concentration, I prefer opponents who keep me busy all game.

“What about Cristiano Ronaldo? He is strong, very fast with the ball between his feet and changes of direction but I think that in Turin we managed to limit him quite well.”

Skriniar then shared who he believes is the best defender on the planet.

“I think it is Sergio Ramos. Every year he is voted among the best, he has won many Champions League’s and scores several goals. I also like Virgil Van Dijk. I have also watched David Luiz and Thiago Silva a lot because I want to get something from each of these champions.”

He proceeded to discuss the pending arrival of Diego Godin, his defensive partner Stefan de Vrij and manager Luciano Spalletti.

“Godin has experience and a winning mentality. He is someone who has won trophies, can give us a big hand and help us become stronger.

“There’s a good feeling between me and Stefan, we’re roommates here in Appiano, but luckily we do not always talk about football.

“Spalletti is a very good coach and has no problems with anyone, he is sometimes direct with us, sometimes there are situations where he prefers to talk longer and explain himself better.”

The 23-year-old then spoke on what Inter need to do to bridge the gap with Juventus.

“If I think about the direct matches, we lost some of them, but it is because of certain episodes [that there is a gap]. Last time in Turin we created two or three occasions where we could have taken the lead. They let in very few goals and have great players who have won them matches, this is something we miss particularly when it comes to winning games where sometimes we do not play as well as we can. Juventus wins all of them, we do not. We have to learn to be more consistent and not just win two or three in a row.”

Having been knocked out of the Champions League Inter now find themselves in the Europa League and he spoke on what Inter must do.

“We have to aim to go as far as possible, it’s not the Champions League, but getting to the end is important.

“Unfortunately the Champions League went how it went but the memories are beautiful. The first match with Tottenham, where we won in the 90th minutes, was exhilarating and what a thrill it was to hear that tune at the beginning.”

He concluded the interview with the Turin based newspaper by stating which of his compatriots he would sign for Inter.

“I think Lobotka of Celta Viga can become a very strong player. I know that Inter had followed him last year, Ausilio asked me what he was like and I told him that was ready to play in Serie A.”
