Inter could reduce Mauro Icardi’s release clause to €80 million according to a report from La Repubblica.
A tense few months have left Icardi’s Inter future right up in the air but La Repubblica detail that the involved parties are coming close to having to admit they will have to go their separate ways in the Summer as contract renewal talks seem impossible to reach an agreement in.
Due to the recent events, it may be difficult for Inter to command that they will only let him leave if his current €110 million release clause is still in place whereas if that figure was €80 million instead it will not be as difficult to command.
The report from the Rome based newspaper also states that a decision is yet to be taken as to whether the 26-year-old should undergo surgery on his knee.
Inter will take a decision no later than March 7, the day Inter play the first leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Icardi has missed Inter’s last four matches as a result of pain in his knee and surgery would almost certainly mean an early end to his season and make it near impossible to make Argentine’s Copa America squad.
