Inter managed to bring home three points after a tight game against SPAL that finally ended 2-0 after goals from Politano and Gagliardini. At the post match press conference this is what Inter coach Luciano Spalletti had to say:
An important win, how do you face the next most important challenges?
“In the first half we under-performed, but in the next two games we will be prepared for wining. The problems we have faced is normal when you have such a tight schedule and there are a lot of other things preoccupying the player’s minds. When you have a tight schedule it becomes easier to get injuries, then we have Miranda who took a nasty blow but Petagna is a good player and I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. But we still moved on well, because we entered the locker room with the conviction of being able to do better in the second half. Politano played closer to Lautaro and Candreva and this move made us more heavy in the centre. Also De Vrij was very good today, I didn’t expect him to perform so well, but he did his job perfectly. Ranocchia also played well and our collective thought in the second half was that we had to better and react on our mistakes from the first half.”
Do you expect to have Icardi at your disposition this coming week?
“I say that if I could have had Keita for twenty minutes, this would have been something important. But he will recover and this week he should be back at a good level. For the rest, this period with a lot of games can create a difficult situation. But if you look at our history we have never had trouble putting everything at the right spot when it comes to a mental and a physical impact. We must realise that our opponents feed off our insecurity, but we still have some cards in our sleeve. But I don’t want to say that we can rely on another player, don’t make me say that.”
Ahead of Thursday, knowing the injury of Brozovic, do you have a tactical approach in order to being able to use the resources that you have to the best?
“We could play with a three-man defence, like today but now we don’t have Miranda and we have to evaluate the situation. Anyway, we will find a solution.”
What are the conditions of Brozovic and Miranda?
“They will not come back in the near future, so now it is up to the players to adjust to the fact that some of them has to play in a different role than they are used to.”
He concluded by being asked about the support the fans gave them throughout the game.
“They have always done that, then you will always have some guys that doesn’t agree with the team. You have to get on the bus to San Siro in order to understand Inter’s fans. Then of course, if you don’t get the results you want, they will protest, but this is normal when it comes to high level football. At the 10th missed pass there were some whistles, but our fans and crowd know football.”
