Former Inter Goalkeeper Toldo: “San Siro Must Be Modernised”

Ahead of this weekend’s match between Spurs Legends and Inter Forever, former Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo, who will manage the team of ex-Nerazzurri stars has spoken with Sky Sport.

He firstly spoke on Juan Sebastian Veron’s presence in the Inter Forever team.

“It is the first game he will play in a while and it was nice of him to make himself available. He is in shape and when I told him about the chance to play he said he would be happy to come. Veron will be awarded on Sunday in the Inter-Lazio interval with the special Inter Forever jersey.”

He then spoke on the importance of Inter Forever for ex-players.

“When we all meet-up there is a lot of celebration and we remember the past. Inter Forever is important in terms of communication, all the former players are treated as legends and are available for photos, interviews and more.

“There will be 45,000 people there on Saturday and some of the team have not played in 10 years so I tried to reduce the length of the match [laughs].”

Next Toldo was asked about his stance on the future of the Milanese clubs at San Siro.

“The Meazza is one of the most fascinating stadiums in the world. I think it must be modernised whilst maintaining its beauty. Antonello and the club have been talking about it for a long time with Milan and the council and it is difficult for a decision to arrive shortly.”

The former shot-stopper then shared his thoughts on Samir Handanovic recently replacing Mauro Icardi as club captain.

“Handanovic is a serious, reliable guy and has shown attachment to the club: for me he has always been the captain of Inter. He has always been it, even in the most difficult moments, so hats off to him.”
