Mauro Icardi showed signs of improvement in his performance in last night’s 1-1 Derby D’Italia draw against Juventus but he is still lacking the decisive touch in the eyes of Corriere dello Sport.
The Argentine was surprisingly given the nod to start the match over compatriot Lautaro Martinez and came close on a few occasions.
Early doors he forced Juventus goalkeeper Wojiech Szczesny into making a save whilst Blaise Matuidi also blocked one of his shots from close range. All in all, the 26-year-old made 29 touches, 15 passes and had three shots on goal.
The Rome based newspaper go on to recall that Icardi has not scored a goal from open play since the beginning of December and has only managed two goals in the time since, both of which have come from the penalty spot.
This season he has netted 10 goals in 25 Serie A appearances, a tally which by his standards is poor and one that has not been helped by the fact he sat out for the best part of two months.
