Antonio Conte will face a serious headache in his first season as Inter’s new head coach if troublesome striker Mauro Icardi is not sold this summer, as reported by Tuttosport.
Inter are keen to get rid of the forward before preseason training begins, so as to avoid more tension and drama after a farcical end to the 2018-19 season.
Icardi, however, has continuously reiterated his desire to remain with the Nerazzurri, describing Inter as ‘my family’ in a grovelling post addressed to supporters on social media last month.
The 26-year-old’s wife and agent Wanda Nara made similar comments when appearing on Argentine television last week, claiming Icardi wants to stay at the club for ‘at least another a season’.
Icardi had always imagined his next move after leaving Inter would be to Real Madrid, but Los Blancos currently seem uninterested in signing him after persistent rumours linked them with a move last summer.
Juventus would be his first choice if Inter left him with no option but to leave, although he remains hopeful of staying with his contract not set to expire until 2021.
Wanda is on good terms with the Bianconeri’s sporting director Fabio Paratici and logistically the move would not represent a problem given Turin’s proximity to Milan.
Selling Icardi for cash would help Inter raise the €40 million they need in capital gains before 30 June, although the Nerazzurri would prefer to swap the forward for Paulo Dybala.
