Lautaro Martinez has admitted he is missing Inter teammate Mauro Icardi as Argentina gear up for this summer’s Copa America in Brazil.
The 21-year-old has been included in Lionel Scaloni’s 23-man squad for the tournament, but Icardi has not after a troubled season on the sidelines at Inter.
Speaking to TyC Sports from the Albiceleste’s training camp, Martinez expressed his disappointment at not being able to share the build-up with his club teammate.
“Mauro was always the person I needed when I first came into the Argentina squad,” he said.
“We spoke in private after what happened happened and they’re things he has to resolve by himself.
“We have a good relationship and I’d have liked to have him here in the national team, but the coach made his decision. Mauro is a good player but there are only 23 of us.”
Argentina have been drawn into a group with Colombia, Paraguay and Qatar.
