Inter vice president Javier Zanetti has described Antonio Conte’s appointment as head coach as ‘an incredible opportunity’ for the club.

Conte was officially unveiled by the Nerazzurri last week, having signed a three-year deal as Luciano Spalletti’s replacement.

Speaking to Sky Sport at a special match organised by FIFA, Zanetti backed the Italian to help Inter mount a title challenge in Serie A next season.

“There’s a lot of enthusiasm at Inter, we’re aware we have an incredible opportunity now,” Zanetti said.

“I’ve spoken with Antonio a lot and we can guarantee a lot of hard work. We expect Inter to play a leading role in the league.”

Inter have already begun reinforcing their squad ahead of preseason training with Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin poised to arrive on a free transfer.

Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella and Roma striker Edin Dzeko appear to be the next two acquisitions lined up while Conte remains hopeful of signing Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.
