Antonio Conte will bring Inter the winning mentality his predecessor Luciano Spalletti was unable to deliver, according to the club’s former striker Nicola Ventola.
Conte replaced Spalletti on a three-year deal on 31 May and has gone on record about his desire to take Inter back to the top of Italian and European football.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, Ventola said Inter would fight for ‘all objectives’ under the ex-Juventus boss before approving the club’s pursuit of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.
“Conte has achieved results, he knows what he wants and he ensures people respect the rules,” Ventola said.
“He’s ambitious and perhaps he’ll give Inter’s players the mentality Spalletti couldn’t give them, despite being a great coach himself.
“Lukaku is a striker I really like. He scores, he can hold the ball up, he has interesting characteristics and can play either as a no. 9 or as a second striker.”
Ventola also expressed his opinion on the situation concerning Mauro Icardi, telling reporters it was time for the 26-year-old to leave Inter.
“You can’t dispute his qualities as a player but given everything that’s happened Icardi has no future at the club,” he added.
