Inter’s Decision To Sell Icardi Is ‘A Matter Of Principle’ For Club

Inter are willing to risk reinforcing a direct rival if it means the club can get rid of Mauro Icardi this summer, according to Libero.

Juventus remain the only club seriously interested in signing the forward, with the Bianconeri sniffing a bargain after Icardi’s market value plummeted last season.

Inter have made a decision based on principle, though, and will not keep the 26-year-old just to avoid their title rivals signing him.

“The paradox is that Inter, with Antonio Conte’s blessing, want to get rid of Icardi regardless of his decreased value,” Libero reported today.

“It’s for the same reason the club could sell Ivan Perisic and Radja Nainggolan as well, despite both valuing less than before.”

Conte is taking a zero-tolerance approach to discipline as he builds his new squad and doesn’t want to risk dressing room unrest with Icardi staying.

It remains to be seen whether Inter can move Icardi on before preseason training begins on 8 July.
