As much as Antonio Conte tries to play down his interest in Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku, it’s becoming increasingly apparent there the 49-year-old is very keen on bringing him in this summer. The links refuse to go away and get stronger by the day. This is worrying some Inter fans but there really is no reason to fear signing the big Belgian.
It’s perfectly understandable to see why there would be a slight bit of concern – after all, Lukaku didn’t exactly set the Premier League alight during the 2018/2019 season, as his 12 goals in 32 games illustrate. But then again, there are very few players, if any, from Manchester United that came away with any dignity after a season where they finished sixth and went trophyless.

The sacking of Jose Mourinho just before Christmas saw the Red Devils improve for a period of time under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but once appointed on a permanent basis, United spectacularly fell apart and even lost at home to relegated Cardiff City on the last day of the season. It would be unfair to judge Lukaku on the failings of Manchester United as a club given the problems run deep at Old Trafford.
During his spell at Everton, which earned him a £75m move to Manchester United, Lukaku scored 87 goals in 166 games as well as managing 29 assists. Whilst Belgium’s all-time top goalscorer isn’t your out-and-out fox in the box prolific striker, he does an incredible job of bringing the midfield into an attacking move by strongly holding the ball up before cleverly laying off an advancing player.
There can be no doubt at all that he would be a very good fit in this Inter team under the guidance of longtime admirer Antonio Conte. He’s got the experience to dominate the Serie A right from the off and should Inter come to an agreement with Manchester United for his services, their odds of 4/1 to win the Serie A in football betting may well come down – he’s that much of a match winner.
Another one of Lukaku’s admirable qualities is his attitude towards the game and the spirit he plays it in. In his 422 club games, Lukaku has only seen red once and that was for a second bookable offence whilst playing for Anderlecht as a teenager, arguably the most dubious way to send a player off.

Should he one day come out with an autobiography, it would be interesting to see whether he talks about his time under Jose Mourinho. Despite being played in a system that got the absolute worst out of him, which subsequently earned him an awful amount of flak from the media and supporters alike, Lukaku never downed tools and gave up, or ever bad mouthed the manager.
To this day, Lukaku has kept his counsel and chosen not to join in on the character assassination of Jose Mourinho. It all points to the 26-year-old being a team player which is something Inter could do with after the Icardi saga left everyone with a bad taste in their mouth.
In essence, Inter should do all they can to bring the Belgian in as he will give them a lift both on and off the field. Dethroning Juventus will take a team of consummate professionals to get the job done and that is exactly what Romelu Lukaku is.
