Antwerp Join Standard Liege In Race For Inter Defender Vanheusden

Antwerp have joined Standard Liege in the race to bring Inter defender Zinho Vanheusden to Belgium, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Standard are close to agreeing a deal worth €20 million for the 19-year-old and would also sign midfielder Xian Emmers on loan.

Michel Preud’homme’s side will have to speed up negotiations if they wish to avoid late surprises, though, after Antwerp registered an interest for the centre-back.

Inter are hoping to sell Vanheusden before 30 June so they can record a capital gain in their bid to avoid risks relating to Financial Fair Play.

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez recently told reporters the player would soon be ready to play for the senior team, capping off a fine season in the Jupiler League.

Vanheusden was a fixed starter for Standard Liege before a serious knee injury ruled him out of the end-of-season playoffs.

Emmers made 20 appearances for Cremonese in Serie B, scoring once and creating one assist.
