Antonio Conte’s former assistant Angelo Alessio today confirmed he was offered a role as part of his backroom staff at Inter.
Alessio spent seven years working alongside Conte during his experiences with Juventus, Italy and Chelsea and was offered the chance to join up with him again in Milan.
However, the ex-Juventus midfielder declined and took charge of Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock last weekend.
“Conte told me I was crazy not to follow him to Inter,” Alessio told the Herald.
“After eight years working together, though, you reach the moment where you want more. You want a new challenge, so I told him I wanted to become a manager myself.”
Alessio had spells with Imolese, Massese, SPAL and Siena in Italy’s lower leagues before becoming Conte’s assistant and insisted he was ready for the challenge.
“This is a great opportunity for me to start a new phase of my career,” the 54-year-old added.
“I’ve built up a lot of experience and I think I’m prepared to take on this job.”
