Ex-Inter Striker Zamorano: “Materazzi Was The Toughest Defender I Ever Faced”

Former Inter striker Ivan Zamorano has named Marco Materazzi as the toughest defender he ever played against.

Zamorano spent five seasons playing for the Nerazzurri at the end of the 1990s, helping the club win the 1998 UEFA Cup against Lazio.

Materazzi joined Inter the year the Chilean left for Club America but faced Zamorano as a Perugia player.

“I’d say him without any hesitation,” Zamorano told Televisa Deportes in a Q&A session last night.

“He was an extraordinary person off the pitch but when we were on it he was very tough to face.”

Zamorano then picked another Inter legend as one of the greatest friends he has made in the sport.

“I would say my best friends are Hugo Rubio and Javier Zanetti,” Bam Bam added.

“I’ve played in some of the best clubs in the world but I think my favourite is Colo Colo, because my father took me to watch them play as a child and I’m still a fan of theirs.”

Zamorano made 148 appearances for Inter in all competitions between 1996 and 2001, scoring 41 goals.
