Napoli Coach Ancelotti: “Inter Will Be Much More Competitive Under Conte”

Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti today warned his players they will face much stiffer competition from Inter this season with Antonio Conte in charge.

Conte began preseason training with the Nerazzurri on Monday and will spend the next week bedding in his new ideas in Switzerland.

Ancelotti said he was pleased to see Conte return to Italy but added that the Bianconeri would still be the team to beat.

“The fact Inter are looking to improve means it will be a more competitive league this season, which is an advantage for everyone,” Ancelotti explained.

“It will also be a problem, though, because they’ll be a lot more competitive. They wanted to invest a lot in their team and this benefits all the teams at the top of the league.”

Ancelotti also downplayed rumours linking Napoli with a move for Mauro Icardi, following reports the Azzurri had made the striker a lucrative offer.

“Icardi is a great player and I see it as a good thing that we’re linked with important players,” he added.

“There’s nothing more in these rumours than an appreciation of the player, though. I don’t think it’s a penalty box player that we need necessarily in order to improve.”
