Inter and Milan face a vicious backlash from San Siro residents if they push ahead with plans to build a new stadium, according to Tuttosport.
The clubs’ intention to create a 60,000-seater ground adjacent to the old one has raised fears over noise pollution, despite technicians reassuring they would soundproof the stadium.
Residents will also have to tolerate substantial changes to the viability of the area, providing another potential source of tension on top of the disagreements between Inter, Milan and the council.
“This is the consequence of Inter and Milan’s weak decision to build a stadium together, as opposed to pursuing two individual projects like most top European clubs,” the paper scornfully wrote this morning.
“It means they have no option but to erect the new San Siro right next to the old one, leaving them with the difficult task of squeezing it in next to the office blocks on Via Tesio.”
Inter and Milan submitted a Technical and Economic Feasibility Study to the Municipality of Milan on Wednesday, and now they must wait for their verdict on the clubs’ preliminary ideas.
