Napoli are planning to wait until much later on in the transfer window before they move for Mauro Icardi, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Inter recently slapped an €80 million price tag on their former captain, which was described by the paper as ‘monstrous’ and persuaded the Partenopei to hang back for now.
Aurelio De Laurentiis is convinced Icardi’s price will drop at the end of August, but it seems Inter would prefer to sell to Napoli than Juventus too.
Juve remain convinced Icardi’s desire to move to Turin will make the difference, enabling them to snap up the 26-year-old for around €40 million.
Corriere today recalled comments made by Inter’s president Steven Zhang in February, when he assured the Nerazzurri would ‘never’ sell Icardi to the Bianconeri.
The idea of the clubs reaching an agreement would seem ‘impossible’, and not just because of Juve’s reluctance to hand over Paulo Dybala in a swap deal.
Napoli have not lost hope of signing James Rodriguez from Real Madrid but the Colombian will only arrive if Los Blancos accept a loan with option to buy deal.
Icardi could be the alternative to James in attack, albeit they do not play in the same positions.
