Roberto Gagliardini ‘Happy At Inter’ Despite Criticism, Midfielder’s Brother Confirms

Roberto Gagliardini’s brother last night confirmed the midfielder is happy at Inter and eager to get started under new boss Antonio Conte.

Gagliardini endured mixed fortunes with the Nerazzurri last season, scoring five goals in Serie A but often being benched in favour of Borja Valero.

However, his older brother Andrea, who also plays football in Italy’s amateur leagues, assured he was looking forward to the new campaign.

“Roberto didn’t play as much last season but he still did fairly well overall,” he told FcInter1908.

“He’s happy in Milan and wants to continue his career with Inter. I hope he can provide a greater contribution this year, both in Serie A and in the Champions League.”

Gagliardini was frequently criticised by Inter supporters during his first two seasons, but he has since become a more popular figure and Andrea was not surprised.

He said: “Being criticised is part of football and it’s normal when things aren’t going well. The important thing for my brother is to show he’s committed and attached to the shirt, which he has always done.

“All players make mistakes, but what matters is to know the club, the coach and everyone around the place has faith in you. Roberto will always care for the club and guarantee maximum effort.”

Andrea admitted Roberto was surprised at just how intense Conte’s first few training sessions had been, but insisted that could be a positive for the former Atalanta man.

“Roberto had a very similar preseason regime when he was being coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, and he exploded under his guidance,” Andrea explained.

“He is very fired up for the new season and told me Conte has brought a winning mentality, which you can already see from Inter’s preseason performances. They’re training hard and you can see the results on the pitch.

“I hope this can be the season Roberto makes a definitive step up in his career, perhaps playing in the Champions League as well.”

Gagliardini was excluded from Inter’s Champions League squad last season due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, but the midfielder will be available for selection under Conte this time round.
