Mayor of Milan and Inter fan Beppe Sala has warned Mauro Icardi he cannot say at the club unless he sorts out his differences with supporters.
Antonio Conte’s tenure got off to the perfect start last night with a convincing 4-0 win over Lecce, including goals from Marcelo Brozovic, Stefano Sensi, Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Candreva.
Sala was in attendance at San Siro and suggested Inter were no longer dependent on their former captain for success.
“It’s hard to give advice to Icardi, I think his problems started a long time ago,” Sala told Telelombardia.
“If he really wants to stay, which seems to be the case, then he must make a clear step towards the fans.
“He’s proven himself to be a great player but now I have a lot of faith in Lukaku.”
Sala described Conte as an excellent professional and added he was very confident he and Beppe Marotta would help Inter win trophies.
“I don’t think our summer recruitment campaign is finished, but Inter are already a great team,” he continued.
“They needed a top player and that’s what Lukaku is, because he’s used to playing at a high level.”
