Joao Mario has explained the reasoning behind him swapping Inter for Lokomotiv Moscow instead of returning to to his native Portugal.
“I did not want to go back to playing in Portugal again, where I grew up, where I know everything and would be comfortable. That did not excite me,” he said in an interview with O Jogo.
“Lokomotiv explained their project to me a few days before and I liked what they told me a lot. They told me that I would play and I thought about it a lot because there is the European Championship’s next Summer and I knew I need to be part of a team where I would play regularly.”
He then spoke on why he thinks things went wrong for him at Inter.
“It’s hard to talk about it now. Every time I have spoken about it, I have been misunderstood, I try not to think about it too much. In life, there are things that are simply not meant to be together.
“I am happy to see Inter doing well. I miss my teammates and I wish them good luck for this reason. The coach is very good and Inter will come back great again.”
