Inter Defender Stefan De Vrij: “We Were Good Not To Concede A Goal”

Inter’s Dutch international central defender Stefan de Vrij spoke to Italian media outlet InterTV following the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Udinese tonight.

“It was important to play with our heads throughout the game because Udinese are a physical team that relies on counters. They have a fast pace that points very well to their depth. We had to be precise and fast: in the first half maybe, we missed a bit too many passes.”

“After the sending off, we pushed even harder until we found the goal which gave us the advantage. In the second half we tried to double it and we couldn’t find it, but we were good not to concede a goal.”

The defender then spoke positively of his two partners in the middle of defence.

“I feel very good, I’m happy to play alongside great players like Milan and Diego, who is one of the strongest defenders around and has a lot of experience. It’s also easier for me like that, so I’m happy.”

De Vrij then revealed that Godin’s assist for the goal was something that was practiced in training.

“The coach asks us to go with the ball when there’s room, to move forward. We still need to improve on that, we can see that we’re improving, and we hope to continue doing so in the future.”

Finally, the defender expressed his belief in Inter’s chances this season.

“We started well with three wins, but there’s still a long way to go. Of course, there’s a great atmosphere and a good group. You can see there’s a desire to play. So, we have to try to improve even further and continue on our way.”
