Ahead of this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina, Tuttosport have recalled just how close Stefano Sensi was to joining AC Milan prior to Inter in the Summer transfer window.
Sensi has been one of the surprise stories at this early stage of the 2019/20 season but things could have been completely different had he moved to the Rossoneri instead of the Nerazzurri.
Former Milan director Leonardo first targeted Sensi back at the beginning of the year and moved quickly to reach an agreement with Sensi’s representatives.
However, once Leonardo departed Milan for PSG, Milan lost their grip on Sensi and Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban were not so convinced about investing in him in the Summer as Sassuolo upped their asking price from €25 million to €35 million.
Inter then swooped in and took advantage of their great relations with Sassuolo to sign the Italian international on a season long loan deal worth €3 million with an option to buy for €25 million with €5 million in bonuses attached.
