Former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga was interviewed by telephone on Italian radio show Radio Deejay yesterday afternoon to discuss Roberto Mancini’s Italy set up as well as Antonio Conte’s job so far with the Nerazzurri.
“I like the national team, absolutely. Mancini has this mentality to focus on young players, then in the Serie A now young players like Sensi and Barella play regularly, just to name two at random in the team I cheer for.”
“I think we’ll get to next summer’s tournament as we did in 1988. There were big names, but I’m referring to the great spirit. We have players who with their characteristics can achieve the goal. There’s still a lot of work ahead of us.”
The 59-year-old Italian then discussed Conte’s Inter.
“Honestly, I didn’t think they were close to Juve, a process of growth needs time. Inter did not dominate against stronger teams did as they did against other teams, for example as against Lazio. They struggled against Slavia Praha.”
“Against Juve we had the feeling that the Bianconeri had something more. Inter shouldn’t give up because of these two defeats, but they have to keep on letting the youngsters grow, maybe sign another player in midfield that could be useful.”
