Nicolo Barella is to undergo surgery on the injury he sustained against Torino today according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian international midfielder suffered a knee injury in this past weekend’s 3-0 triumph away to Torino and he should be back available for Inter’s first game of the new year, which is away to Napoli.
As a result Barella will obviously be missing for the next lot of games that Inter will play, starting with tonight’s Champions League group stage match away to Slavia Prague.
Borja Valero, who replaced him on Saturday, should get his first start of the campaign tonight as Roberto Gagliardini, who has recovered from his recent injury, is not in a condition to immediately return to the starting line-up.
The veteran Spaniard has been limited to just 45 minutes on the pitch up until now across two appearances in all competitions this season but with Stefano Sensi also still out injured, he could see more of the pitch in the coming weeks.
