Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti was in attendance at an event set up by the Union of Jewish Italian communities and spoke on the topic of inclusivity.
“Inter were created on the basis that we are brothers of the world. This was the message our founding fathers left us more than 100 years ago and this is a message that we try to carry on today through our fans and our players, even the youngest ones,” he said.
Zanetti proceeded to discuss former Inter manager Arpad Weisz, who was one of millions of Jewish people to die during the Holocaust.
“We are proud to have had someone like Arpad Weisz among our many managers. He is the youngest manager to have ever won a title with us and was the manager who gave Peppino Meazza his debut. He and his family were deported to Auschwitz.”
In conclusion he spoke on the club’s Brothers Universally United (BUU) anti-discrimination campaign: “With the BUU campaign, we have taken a strong and clear stand against all forms of discrimination, including racism. There is no room for racism in football.”
