Napoli will make one final attempt to try and tie Dries Mertens down to a contract extension just shortly according to Italian broadcaster Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato.

The Belgian attacker’s contract with the Stadio San Paolo club is due to expire at the end of this season and as per Venerato, Napoli will improve upon their most recent contract offer of €4 million a year that came with a €1 million signing bonus.

The offer will need to be significantly raised to meet Mertens demands with it understood Mertens is looking for an annual salary of €7 million per season.

In the event Napoli cannot convince Mertens to sign a new deal, Mertens will leave the club at the end of this season and will have no shortage of offers.

Roma, Inter and Juventus have all shown an interest in signing him whilst Premier League club Chelsea have as well.

This season the 32-year-old has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.
