Daniele Padelli’s mother Renza Leoni has shared her delight following her son’s Serie A debut for Inter this past weekend.
The 34-year-old shot-stopper was called upon for the first time for a league game since his arrival in the Summer of 2017 after Samir Handanovic sustained an injury in training in the lead up to the game.
The former Torino player gave a good account of himself in Udine and kept a clean sheet in what was just his third appearance across all competitions since joining the Nerazzurri.
In an interview in today’s print edition of La Provincia di Sondrio, Leoni firstly revealed an anecdote about her son’s love for Inter.
“When Daniele was 11 years old we made a surprise to his dad and we gave him a television subscription to watch the league games and especially those of Inter. Our home is full of Inter fans.
“I remember Daniele writing on a piece of paper, ‘for the moment, look at others, with the hope, one day, of being able to see me too’.
“Seeing him debut was a great feeling and he played with the seriousness that he has always trained with. It brought great joy to us as a family but especially to him as he has always been an Inter fan.”
Leoni then went on to reveal when she learned there was a chance her son could be playing she did not wait around and almost immediately began the journey to Udine in order to be there in case he did play, which he did.
“Even though it wasn’t 100% official, Daniele called me on Saturday afternoon and told me that Samir Handanovic had a problem and that would mean that he probably would play.
“I left immediately for Milan and then, during the night, together with his wife, we reached Udine and on Sunday evening we watched the game at the stadium.
“After the game we were able to see him for a few minutes. He was very happy and enjoyed the compliments and our hugs, including that of his baby.”
