Former Inter player Alessandro Altobelli has hit out at former Inter manager Luciano Spalletti after a recent interview he gave.
In the interview, Spalletti claimed that he had been contacted by AC Milan regarding their then vacant managerial post but Inter paid him to stay at home.
Inter have however since come out and said that Spalletti, who managed the club between the Summer of 2017 and 2019 rejected their severance pay offer.
Altobelli took to social media platform Instagram to share his thoughts on the whole situation and said: “I have always respected Spalletti as a man and as a coach. He is a prepared and capable manager who has achieved excellent results at Inter, taking us to the Champions League, even without having a competitive team like Conte has today.
“I was surprised to read the interview he gave to Gazzetta dello Sport. At a certain point he talks about the call received by Milan and how Inter prevented him from going.
“Spalletti is a great manager, he is charismatic and avant-garde from a technical point of view but he has not convinced me here.
“He had two years left on his contract and Inter wanted to pay him for one year. I do not want to count the money in anyone’s pocket but I do not think Spalletti is someone who has earned little.
“Would that extra million really affect your bank account so much? Wouldn’t going to Milan bridge the missed revenue from Inter? Wouldn’t going back to Serie A as manager of Inter’s fiercest rival be priceless?”
