Demetrio Albertini Ahead Of Inter-AC Milan: “The Milan Derby Tends To Be Won By The Team Who Makes The Least Mistakes”

In an interview with Tuttosport, which appeared in today’s print edition, former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini has spoken on a range of topics ahead of this weekend’s Derby della Madonnina between Inter and AC Milan.

He began the interview by discussing the success AC Milan have had since the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic with them yet to taste defeat.
“There was some doubts about his age and physical condition but it was to be expected that he would bring an important emotional boost,” he started.

“He has taken away pressure from teammates who are now able to play with more serenity. The nice thing is that Ibra has added remarkable performances and goals to all this.”

The former Italian international then spoke on the battle between Ibrahimovic and Inter striker Romelu Lukaku but shared his belief that it will not be them but something else that decides the outcome of the match.

“Between these two it is objectively a challenge between giants, but the derby tends to be won by the team that makes the least mistakes.”

Albertini then went on to speak about Lukaku’s strike partner Lautaro Martinez and his recent sending off against Cagliari which means he will be missing Sunday’s match.
“I have seen him live and he is the player who has impressed me most. I have to congratulate the Nerazzurri for discovering him.

“The sending off? He has been naive in being unable to control himself, and these things have consequences for the team, not only when there is a derby but always.”

Albertini then went on to sing the praises of Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, it is Conte who has allowed the team to take a leap in quality. It was conceived from the outset to fight for the Scudetto and not for the fourth place.”

Albertini concluded the interview with the Turin based newspaper by discussing the club’s desires to build a new state of the art stadium to replace their current San Siro home.
“Inter and Milan deserve a different stadium, San Siro is a monument of the city but it is no longer adequate to world standards.”
