Respected Italian football journalist Matteo Marani has shared his views on last night’s top of the table clash between Lazio and Inter at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital of Rome.

Inter broke the deadlock between the two sides through January transfer window recruit Ashley Young who volleyed home just before the half time interval but it would be Lazio who were celebrating at the full time whistle with thanks to goals from Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Marani was quick to praise Lazio for their performance in the match and shared his belief that the Biancocelesti side won the midfield battle against the Nerazzurri.

“Lazio impressed me yesterday, especially with their performance. They gave an impression of having solidity and security,” he remarked whilst present in Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia’s studios earlier on today.

“The team has two players in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto who offer great quality, they dominated the match against Nicolò Barella and Matias Vecino.

“After losing to Inter in the first half of the season, they have won 15 out of their 19 games, they have the best goalscorer in the league and best defence too. It is said that Simone Inzaghi has no great alterantives to his starters but he is managing to mask this.”

Marani then went on to discuss Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen and how he has been surprised by the Danish international’s lack of usage.

“He only played for a few minutes, as he did in the derby. I was curious to see how Inter would have played with Eriksen, how he would have changed the system but the system hasn’t changed and Eriksen doesn’t play. This has left me with many doubts. Are there problems that we are not aware of?”

In conclusion, Marani spoke on Inter manager Antonio Conte: “Antonio Conte is a very good manager, he has changed Inter but I always see some problems related to transfer market management and the absence of Eriksen has struck me.”
