Danish national team manager Age Hareide has revealed that Manchester United were extremely keen on signing Christian Eriksen prior to him completing his move to Inter.
Eriksen joined Inter during the recent January transfer window from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on a four and a half year contract with the transfer fee believed to be in the region of €20 million.
The recently turned 28-year-old attacking midfielder’s contract with Spurs was due to expire at the end of this season and as a result several clubs showed an interest in signing him aside from Inter.
“There were many English clubs that wanted Eriksen, Manchester United were among them. I know for sure that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him,” Hareide revealed in an interview with Norwegian broadcaster ViaSport earlier on today.
“There was also talk of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but in the end Inter and Antonio Conte showed a real interest in Christian, and this was the most important thing for him.”
Since his arrival at the club, Eriksen has featured in all five games that Antonio Conte’s side have played. However only one of his appearances have come as a starter.
The former Ajax midfielder is expected to get his second start in this evening’s Europa League match away to Ludogorets with some reports suggesting he will get the chance to play in his preferred attacking midfield role.
