Inter Midfielder Borja Valero: “Very Important Win Against Ludogorets, I Hope We Can Win Something”

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset today, Inter central midfielder Borja Valero has reflected on the team’s performance in their 2-0 triumph over Ludogorets in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie with them.

“It was a very important win after the defeat to Lazio last Sunday. We had to win and bring home a good result to have a more peaceful week and prepare for the challenges that await us,” the 35-year-old Spaniard, who was given a rare opportunity to start a match, began.

Next he spoke on how important the win is ahead of next week’s second leg at San Siro.

“Obviously we knew that a good result in the first leg would have made us feel more relaxed, even if you never know what can happen in the return leg but now it is a bit simpler.”

The former Fiorentina player proceeded to discuss Christian Eriksen who scored his first goal for the club at the Ludogorets Arena.

“It is normal that he needed time to adapt to a new kind of football and a new manager. Yesterday he proved to be at a good level.”

He then spoke on his and his teammates ambitions for the Europa League, a competition Inter have won three times previously.

“Obviously it’s a competition that we like, but it leaves us a little tired. We want to do well, we can’t relax.”

In conclusion Valero was asked if he thinks this Inter team have what it takes to go on and win some silverware.

“I hope so, it’s something I’ve been thinking about since the beginning of the season, I hope something good happens.”

This season Valero has made 14 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri. In just over 750 minutes on the field, he has contributed two goals.
