Gianluca Di Marzio: “Barcelona Are Losing €5 Million A Day, Maybe Now They Can’t Afford Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez”

Italian journalist and transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio discussed Inter striker Lautaro Martinez’s possible departure to join Barcelona in the upcoming summer transfer window yesterday. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“Before the Coronavirus emergency, Lautaro to Barça was much more than an idea, the Blaugrana will was strong. Right now, however, the important thing is to understand how much teams will lose economically after this crisis.”

Di Marzio highlighted Lautaro’s expensive price tag and the losses being suffered by the Catalan side due to the Coronavirus emergency. Football in Spain has been postponed, like most of Europe.

“One can think that Barcelona can no longer spend 111 million on Lautaro, the Catalan side are already losing €5 million a day. Therefore, assuming negotiations at these figures could be counterproductive.”

Lautaro, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has been followed by the Catalan giants since 2016, when he was impressing with Argentine side River Plate. The player has shined under coach Antonio Conte this season, forming a formidable partnership with former Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku and establishing himself on the world scene.

Lautaro has made 31 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 2437 minutes. In that time, he has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
