Inter Vice President Javier Zanetti: “Playing Against Totti & Del Piero Was Always Difficult”

Inter vice president Javier Zanetti discussed the lessons that he has learned from sport and opponents that gave him trouble in his playing career in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia yesterday

“What has sport taught us? The most important thing is team spirit, which is fundamental in everyday life as this historical moment is also demonstrating.”

He then gave advice to young players about what makes a great captain.

“First of all, you have to be yourself, then you need respect and loyalty to those close to you.”

Finally, Zanetti spoke about Roma legend Francesco Totti and former Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero.

“How to stop them? It was difficult, they had so much quality. At any moment they could invent a play, we faced each other for twenty years and it was always complicated.”

Serie A, like most other leagues around Europe, has been fully postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus emergency, which has caused many countries around Europe to go into a total lockdown, including Italy. The Italian government have suggested that teams can prepare for a return to training on 4th May, assuming that the medical conditions allow for it.

The assumption now is that Serie A could be restarted at the end of May, with the games set to be played every few days behind closed doors, in order to fully protect the players and staff, as well as the general public.
