Italian Report Details Safety Protocols That Clubs Will Have To Enforce To Restart Training On 4th May

A report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia has explained the action plan sent to the Italian government by the FIGC’s medical and science departments regarding the restart of training and the season.

The report details how the FIGC are proceeding on the basis that the 4th May will be the date that clubs are allowed to restart training. All players will undergo various tests before they are allowed to enter the training camp. The players will then be divided into three groups, A, B and C – those who have recovered from the virus, those who have recovered from an unconfirmed illness and healthy players who have not contracted the virus.

Should a player test positive in these tests, the report continues, then the usual isolation period will take place, followed by physical therapy. There would also be a suspension of squad training in that case. Players in the groups of A and B will undergo specific heart tests to ensure that their cardiovascular health hasn’t been compromised by the virus.

Once all the tests have been completed, there will be a three-week isolation period, the report continues. The players will not undergo real training in the first week, instead doing athletic training and individual technique exercises. There will be no matches and the players will be forced to be two meters apart in the gyms, locker rooms and dining rooms. The squad will stay in single rooms and also shower there. After two weeks, a gradual return to normal training is expected.
