Argentina U23 Coach Batista: “Lautaro Martinez Wanted To Leave Inter Already During His First Season”

Argentina under 23 national team manager Fernando Batista has claimed that Lautaro Martinez wanted to leave Inter during his first season with the club.

The highly rated 22-year-old striker joined Inter in the Summer of 2018 from Superliga Argentina side Racing Club and found regular playing time as a starter very hard to come by under then manager Luciano Spalletti, something which Batista claims had Lautaro wanting to depart the Nerazzurri.

“I remember that once I went to see him and he wanted to leave because he didn’t play much,” Batista remarked in an interview with Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports earlier on today.

The Argentine national team forward has been a regular starter this campaign under new manager Antonio Conte and his fine form has led to continuous links over a move to La Liga giants Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

This season Lautaro, who has a contract with Inter until the end of the 2022/23 season, has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park he has scored 16 goals and has provided a total of four assists for his teammates.
