Inter Vice President Zanetti: “Sporting Activity Is Returning But I’m Very Cautious As There’s So Much Concern”

Legendary Inter player and current club vice president Javier Zanetti has shared his views on the fact that sports across the world are now beginning again after having been brought to a halt due to the Coronavirus crisis.

Football in Italy was put on hold in mid-March and plans have been unveiled for the 2019/20 Serie A campaign to resume on Sunday June 20.

“It is true that sporting activity is returning, but for the moment I am very cautious as there is so much concern,” Zanetti explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Rai 1 television show ‘La Vita in Diretta’ earlier on today.

“There have been difficult moments for sport but I think there are many people who have suffered much more. Unfortunately this pandemic has affected all over the world and this situation will make us think a lot about many things.”

He then went on to speak about an upcoming charity event that he will partake in.

“It is a very important event, especially for the moment we’re in. It is in favour of the Red Cross, they are making a great effort. There will be many athletes who will recount the emotions experienced on and off the pitch, but it is a unique opportunity to help those in greatest need.”

Zanetti joined Inter in the Summer of 1995 from Superliga Argentina outfit Banfield and spent the next 19 years on Inter’s books before retiring.

During his spell with Inter, he made a club record 858 appearances across all competitions, the majority of which he captained the club in. He scored 21 goals, tallied 16 assists and won no less than 16 trophies, including the Champions League once.
